Dublin bodybuilder to be sentenced for possession of assault rifle

A Dublin man who is representing Ireland in bodybuilding has pleaded guilty to possession of an assault rifle and drugs.

A Dublin man who is representing Ireland in bodybuilding has pleaded guilty to possession of an assault rifle and drugs.

Brian Hickey (aged 28) of Palmerstown Woods, Palmerstown pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to possession of an AKM assault rifle and a quantity of cannabis for sale or supply at Wheatfield Drive, Clondalkin on September 3, 2008.

Defence counsel, Mr Shane Costelloe BL, said his client has no previous convictions and applied for him to be remanded on bail so he can represent Ireland in an upcoming competition in June.

Judge Katherine Delahunt granted the application and will hear the case at the end of June.
