The Ice Bucket Challenge craze shows no sign of abating but it's easy to forget what the original aim of the challenge was - to raise money and awareness for ALS (also known as Motor Neurone Disease).
We've had
of celebrities complete it, we've had Dáithí do it and there is already a fails compilation and while it's great that they're promoting the cause, this video really drives home the importance of the cause.David McClain has had ALS for the last 12 years. He is paralysed from the shoulders down and requires 24-hour care. But he wanted to take part in the online phenomenon that affects him personally.
"I am paralyzed from my shoulders down. I cannot speak, nor can I eat or drink. I am fed through a feeding tube. I cannot breath without assistance of a ventilator," he says with the help of an eye-scan machine in his own Ice Bucket Challenge vid.
"But as bad as that sounds, I am able to keep a positive attitude with the help of my family, my friends and the good Lord today."
David also appealed to his friends to donate to the cause.
"I want to nominate all of my friends who I have on Facebook. Here is my challenge to each of you," he said.
"Not only do I challenge you to take the ice bucket plunge, I also challenge you to make a donation of whatever you can to the ALS Association. With your help, we can find a cure for this horrible disease. There is always hope."
If you needed a reason to dump ice water over your head, that's it.
