Quite frankly, this was always going to happen.
A Welsh mum who auctioned a dress made from 20,000 loom bands for £170,100 (€215,000) has spoken of her disappointment after the sale fell through.
Helen Wright from Prestatyn in North Wales auctioned the dress, made by her frend Katherine Burnand, on eBay earlier this month on the suggestion of her 12-year-old daughter Sian, a loom band fan.
“We thought we'd stick it on eBay as a bonus for £50 and thought if it went over £50, we might have a day out,” Helen said at the time.
To the surprise of all, the auction took off, with the winning bid of £170,100 (€214,759) making headlines worldwide.
But, to the surprise of nobody really, the sale has now fallen through, with the winning bidder having sent the ladies an email yesterday to say that she could not afford the dress.
"Ebay have been great about it and they sent me a message saying they could see she had pulled out," Helen told the North Wales Daily Post.
Despite this disappointment, they may yet be in for a payday as they can now make an offer to another bidder.
"I've whittled it down to six buyers who all put in bids over the £150,000 mark," Helen said.
If this doesn't work, she added, they may relist the dress.
"Ebay have said if we relist the dress we will be able to vet the bidders next time," she said.
"I might try it for three days this time but it's a lucky dip from now on."
