€400k drugs haul seized in Carlow

A 21-year-old man was being questioned today over the seizure of €400,000 worth of drugs.

A 21-year-old man was being questioned today over the seizure of €400,000 worth of drugs.

Gardai discovered 20 kilos of cannabis herb and eight kilos of amphetamine during a raid on a house near Leighlinbridge in Co Carlow.

The suspect, who was arrested at the scene, is being quizzed at Carlow Garda Station.

Officers from the Organised Crime Unit joined local gardaí and members of the National Drugs Unit during the operation yesterday afternoon.

Meanwhile two men, aged 42 and 43 years, remain in custody over the seizure of €1.4m worth of cocaine in Athlone on Friday.

Five kilos of cannabis resin was also found at the scene.

Elsewhere a 28-year-old man, arrested on Friday after 16,000 ecstasy tablets and 6oz of cocaine were found in a house in Dublin’s north inner city, is being held at Store Street Garda Station.

All four suspects can be held for up to seven days.
