Alan Shatter launches High Court challenge against Guerin report

The former Minister for Justice, Alan Shatter, has launched a High Court challenge with the aim of quashing findings in the Guerin Report.

Deputy Shatter resigned following the publication of the report, which criticised his handling of allegations made by Garda whistleblower Maurice McCabe.

Alan Shatter claims the report showed objective bias and an absence of fair procedures, and also alleges that Senior Counsel Sean Guerin showed "indecent haste" in compiling his report.

The former Minister is claiming his reputation was badly damaged as a result.

The Minister for Jobs, Richard Burton, said Shatter was entitled to his legal challenge.

"People are entitled to pursue their view, and that's not something the Government is either uncomfortable with, or would comment on," he said.
