An American Airlines plane has made an emergency landing at Shannon airport. No one was injured in the incident.

The Boeing 767 jet was travelling from Paris to Dallas when the flight crew became concerned after they smelled smoke coming from the galley.

The plane, which has a capacity of 220 but which is not believed to have been full, was over the Atlantic at the time.

As a precaution, the captain decided to turn around and return to the nearest airport, which was Shannon.

The airline says the jet landed as normal and is now being repaired.

A second plane will transport the passangers to the US this evening.
