Batt O'Keeffe flags March 25 as possible election date
Minister for Enterprise Batt O'Keeffe has said it is too early to say whether a referendum to abolish the Seanad will take place on the same date as the General Election.
The Minister said it was possible that such a referendum could happen, but no decision has been taken by the Government and the matter has not been discussed in detail.
But he warned the Fianna Fáil senators who are upset about the possible abolition of the Seanad to seriously examine how relevant the institution is.
Batt O'Keeffe also flagged March 25 as the most likely election date, saying the Fianna Fáil nomination conventions would be held "over the next number of weeks".
He also said: "I heard John Gormley mention, and I'm not demurring...the 25th of March this morning. Why would I disagree with my colleague in government?"
