Two women have been threatened at knifepoint during an aggravated burglary at their home in Cork.

Three intruders forced their way into a house in the Mahon area at 11.20pm last night.

A 65-year-old woman, who had recently suffered a stroke, and her daughter were tied up with a cable from a mobile phone and a scarf.

The intruders - two of whom were masked - escaped with upwards of €10,000 in cash.

The women managed to free themselves and raised the alarm.
