Firefighters were called into action this morning when a fire broke out on a Bus Éireann bus on the main Cork-Dublin Road just outside Cork city early this morning.

Firefighters were called into action this morning when a fire broke out on a Bus Éireann bus on the main Cork-Dublin Road just outside Cork city early this morning.

There were no passengers on the bus when it happened shortly before 8am.

The driver pulled in on the the Glanmire By-pass when he noticed smoke coming from the engine and he attempted to quench it using a fire extinguisher.

He was unable to put it out, but units of the Cork City Fire Brigade from Balllyvolane attended and brought the fire under control.

The driver was uninjured in the incident
