Close call for school children after bus crash

A Cork school bus full of children had a near miss this morning when the bus they were travelling on slipped on black ice.

The secondary school bus was travelling between Leamlara and Carrigtwohill when the incident occurred around 8am this morning.

It was initially feared that the bus had overturned but it is now understood that it slipped on the ice and is now wedged between both sides of the road.

Gardaí have said there were no injuries on board the bus which was carrying 20 children.

The bus driver has been praised for his quick reaction and skilled driving that managed to keep all the children safe from harm.

A replacement bus soon arrived on the scene to take the children to school.

Gardaí are advising people to drive with extreme caution.
