Concern for jobs at Glaxo Smith Kline

There are fears of job cuts today at the Glaxo Smith Kline pharmaceutical plant in Co Waterford.

It is understood that staff at the factory in Dungarvan have been called into a meeting at the company at 3pm tomorrow.

The British pharmaceutical giant is the biggest employer in Dungarvan, with more than 700 people working at the plant.

An operations review has been carried out for the company by McKenzie Consulting over recent months.

Earlier this year the company announced it was divesting a number of brands including Solpadeine, which is manufactured in Dungarvan, although it also identified Dungarvan-made Panadol as a "core" product in the future.
