Fisherman rescued and arrested off Mayo coast

A fisherman has been taken to hospital following a rescue operation by the Ballyglass Lifeboat off the Co Mayo coast this morning.

A fisherman has been taken to hospital following a rescue operation by the Ballyglass Lifeboat off the Co Mayo coast this morning.

The man is understood to have collapsed on board a vessel in Broadhaven Bay.

He was brought to Ballyglass pier by the lifeboat and transferred to Castlebar General Hospital.

Gardaí later confirmed the fisherman was arrested shortly after 11am under the Public Order Act on suspicion of entering an exclusion zone thrown up by Shell around their pipeline works.
