The Education Minister Ruairi Quinn has said the Government will publish a three-year economic plan at the end of the month.

Mr Quinn said the plan will deal with the macro-economic revenue and spending measures needed over that time frame.

The Budget for next year will then be published as usual in December.

He said there are a variety of reasons for the decision.

Mr Quinn said: "Part of the thinking of this is to give a degree of certainty to the marketplace and to individuals.

They will know what is going to happen in expenditure and taxation terms over the next three years. One of the few things that a Government can do in a mixed open-market economy like ours is to provide certainty."
