Kenny: FG will not assist Government with Budget vote

Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny has ruled out doing any deal to assist the Government in getting the Budget through in December, for fear his party will lose support as a result.
Mr Kenny said that while a National Government approach was 'wonderful' for the country in the past, Fine Gael had lost votes by being part of it.
Speaking in North Dublin today, Mr Kenny indicated that there would be no repeat of the so-called Tallaght Strategy, in which the Opposition helped the Government to push through difficult cuts for the good of the country.
"The problem for Fine Gael at that time was that while it was wonderful from a national perspective to support to Tallaght Strategy, Fine Gael had no power or influence over it, and suffered at the polls as a consequence," said Mr Kenny.
