Longford bypass opens today

The N5 Longford Bypass is opening today, after 16 months of construction and an investment of €26m.

The National Roads Authority says it is opening two months ahead of schedule.

The bypass consists of 2.6 kilometres of single carriageway, a bridge spanning the river Camlin and the realignment of local and regional roads.

Transport Minister Leo Varadkar said that it will reduce journey times between the Greater Dublin area and Mayo, Sligo and Roscommon by removing a significant bottleneck.
