A file is being sent to the DPP after a man was detained at Shannon Airport for allegedly trying to inspect US military aircraft.

The man, in his 60s, was stopped by airport police at around 8.20am and local gardaí were called.

In a statement Shannon Airport confirmed that a man was detained after moving away from the Heathrow bound aircraft he was due to get onboard.

A Shannon Airport spokesperson said: “Shannon Airport can confirm that a man was detained this morning after diverting from the Heathrow aircraft he was due to board.

“A member of airport staff swiftly apprehended the man as he strayed from the designated approach to the aircraft steps. He was handed over to an Garda Síochána. The flight departed on schedule.”
