A man in his 40s was shot dead in Dublin last night, Gardaí said.

A man in his 40s was shot dead in Dublin last night, Gardaí said.

The shooting took place at Botherboy in Saggart shortly after 11pm last night, according to a Garda statement.

The victime was shot a number of times in the upper body.

The man was removed to Tallaght Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly before midnight. A post mortem will be carried out on the body.

The scene at Botherboy, Saggart has been sealed off for a forensic examination which will take place this morning and a Garda investigation is underway.

The dead man has been named locally as Andy Connors.

The shooting occurred at the man’s newly-built home. Construction work on external walls surrounding the property had not been complete with building materials lying at the front of the house.

The home had also been wired for CCTV cameras with four positions fixed to external walls.
