A man at Dublin's Mountjoy Prison has died after falling ill in his cell in the early hours of this morning.

A man at Dublin's Mountjoy Prison has died after falling ill in his cell in the early hours of this morning.

The man in his early 30s was found unconscious in his cell at around 3.30am.

He was then taken to nearby Mater Hospital but died a short time later.

The Irish Prison Service and Gardaí are investigating the death.

A post mortem will be carried out to determine the cause of the man's death, but it is believed that he died from a drugs overdose.
