It is understood that the next Minister for Finance is to be Fine Gael's Michael Noonan, with a key aspect of the portfolio to be driven by Labour's Joan Burton.

According to reports emerging this morning, a deal has been agreed where the Labour Party will take six ministries and be charged with public sector reform, while the larger coalition party takes the finance position.

The public reform role will be undertaken by Joan Burton, according to reports.

Both the Labour Party and Fine Gael are meeting their respective party delegates this afternoon and the parliamentary party members this afternoon, where the new proposed programme for government will be revealed.

More than Labour Party 1,000 delegates will then vote on whether or not they would like the Labour Party to go ahead with the deal.
