It has been reported today that David Norris will announce next week that he will re-enter the race to become Ireland's next president.

The Senator bowed out of the presidential race in August, after it emerged he wrote a letter to Israeli authorities back in 1997, seeking clemency for his former partner who had been convicted of statutory rape.

However, it has reported in the Sunday Independent today that Mr Norris has had a change of heart, after recent opinion polls showed that 40% of the public would still vote for him in October's election.

It is also believed that some Fianna Fáil Oireachtas members have indicated to him that they would support his bid for a nomination.
