Plans to use M50 toll cameras to check for tax
There are plans to use toll cameras on Dublin's M50 to check for motor tax dodgers.
Reports suggest the government hopes to recoup up to €50m euro in lost motor tax revenue every year through the initiative.
According to the Irish Independent, Department of Transport officials will cross check registrations of 103,000 vehicles that pass through the M50 toll every day with their own records.
It is hoped that the system can be extended to other toll roads and speed-check cameras if it is a success.
