Priest charged with eight counts of indecent assault against boy
A priest has been remanded on bail, charged with indecently assaulting a boy, .
The accused who cannot be named appeared before a sitting of Limerick District Court this morning.
He is charged with eight counts of indecent assault against the boy, contrary to Common Law, and Section 62 of the Offences Against the Person Act, 1861.
The offences are alleged to have taken place on dates between September 1, 1988 and August 1, 1990.
Detective Garda Mike Reidy, Roxboro Road station, gave evidence that he "met the defendant by appointment before the court at 10.15am and formally arrested him".
"In reply to all of the charges he had nothing to say...no reply to the charges," Dtc Gda Reidy said.
He told the court the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) had, "consented to trial on indictment, in respect of these matters".
Gardai did not object to bail and sought no special conditions.
Gda Reidy said it was "a Co Limerick matter" and he sought "a remand to Kilmallock court on September 13 for (production of) of Book of Evidence."
The accused was granted free legal aid and was represented in court by a solicitor.
Judge O'Leary ordered the media not to disclose the identities of either the accused or the injured party.
She remanded the accused on bail of his own bond of €300, to appear before Kilmallock District Court on September 13, for production of a Book of Evidence.
