Fine Gael has described as "completely inappropriate" a letter written Green Minister Trevor Sargent to a garda on behalf of constituent who was under investigation at the time.

The constituent for whom he acted for was subsequently convicted of threatening and abusive behaviour and fined €500.

Minister Sargent's letter was sent to the gardaí, on Department of Agriculture headed notepaper.
