SF calls on Government to appoint independent planning regulator

Sinn Féin is calling on the Government to appoint an independent regulator to oversee planning procedures.

The motion was one of the recommendations of the Mahon Tribunal into planning corruption in Dublin, but it has never been implemented.

Sinn Féin spokesperson on the Environment Brian Stanley said it was unclear as to why the coalition had so far failed to appoint the regulator.

"It would have public support," he said. "It would improve the checks and balances."
