Stand-off in Portlaoise Prison
Portlaoise prison is on alert after two prisoners refused to return to their cells at lock-up time last night.
The inmates are believed to have staged a protest on E-wing after one of the prisoners was refused temporary leave to visit his sick child.
Prison staff or gardai have not confirmed the incident took place but a garda source said a disturbance had taken place.
The inmate at the centre of the incident was jailed for three years for membership of an illegal organisation which styled itself on the IRA.
