A major alert is underway in Athlone following the discovery of a number of suspicious devices.

A major alert is underway in Athlone following the discovery of a number of suspicious devices.

It is reported one each was found at two headshops in the town, in the Irishtown and Mardyke Street areas.

The alarm was raised at about 9.45am.

A number of streets in the town have been sealed off and the Army Bomb Disposal Team is on its way.
