U2 will perform three live shows in Dublin this Christmas.

The gigs are part of the supergroup's Innocence and Experience Tour 2015 and will take place in the 3 arena shortly before Christmas.

Bono confirmed the details in an exclusive interview with the late Tony Fenton recorded in January.

The interview will be broadcast for the first time this Bank Holiday Monday at 3pm on Today FM. Specific dates will be revealed then.

The gigs will be the band's first return to the venue since December 1989. The most recent Irish gigs were in 2009, when U2 played Croke Park.

Revenues from two of the shows will go to the Music Generation project, which equips children with musical instruments. Twenty thousand children have benefitted so far.
