Varadkar: Hospitals nowhere near as bad as 'horror stories' under FF Government

Health Minister Leo Varadkar said that the Fianna Fail Government produced horror stories in hospital emergency departments on an almost daily basis, when it was in power.
Minister Varadkar did acknowledge the seriousness of the current overcrowding problem in hospitals around the country.
The Fine Gael TD last night defended the Coalition's healthcare record, following a meeting of the Emergency Departments taskforce.
Health Minister Varadkar said that up until the summer, the overcrowding problem was improving, until a spike in the numbers of patients on trolleys last week.
Minister Varadkar said that while Fianna Fáil was in power, there were problems in hospitals all year round.
"It was very bad this new year, but it was almost every single day as in 2003, 2004," he said.
"All of the time, there were horror stories in the newspapers, not just in January, but almost every single day."
