Sinn Féin's Mary Lou McDonald was ejected from the Dáil this evening, after she accused the Ceann Comhairle of bias.

Deputy McDonald had been addressing the Taoiseach directly after accusing government TDs of heckling Sinn Féin during their reaction to the Budget.

Ceann Comhairle Sean Barrett asked Deputy McDonald to direct her comments through the chair instead of directly to the Taoiseach, as directed by Dáil rules.

Ms McDonald objected to the Ceann Comhairle's interruption and told Mr Barrett she believed it was a "biased intervention".

“You’re interrupting me for that?” she asked. “I think that is deliberately disruptive."

Mr Barrett told her to withdraw the remark or leave the chamber.

"I'm not withdrawing it. I believe it was deliberately disruptive," she said.

"If you do not withdraw the remark, you are accusing me of bias. You'll either withdraw that remark or leave the chamber," he said.

Deputy McDonald again refused, to which the Ceann Comhairle responded: "Then leave the chamber."
