Waterford gardaí arrest man in suspected sex assault case involving teenage girl

Gardaí in Waterford investigating a suspected sexual assault on a teenage girl, have arrested a 21-year-old man.

He was detained in the Waterford area yesterday.

Officers say a teenage girl was attacked on the Tramore Road late Thursday night / Friday morning.

Gardaí say they are following a definite line of inquiry.

Speaking to local radio station, WLR, Fianna Fáil Councillor for Tramore - Waterford City West Eamonn Quinlan says locals have been concerned about this walkway for some time.

“Locals in this area have been highlighting this area as a problem area for quite a time, in that it does not sufficient lighting, it’s not been made safe for the public, for pedestrians,” he said.

“There’s unfortunately been a level of inaction on this going on a while, too long.

“Ordinary Waterford residents are suffering and as such we can’t allow this level of inaction to continue.”
