Baby born drunk after mother collapses in off licence

A baby has been born drunk after its mother collapsed in an off-licence while heavily pregnant.

The new mum is facing jail after her little one was nearly 23 times the drink-drive limit when it was born two weeks premature via an emergency caesarean after the woman collapsed while trying to purchase more drink in Tomaszow, Poland.

Hospital spokesman Wojciech Zawalski said: "The unborn baby was in severe danger of being poisoned to death.

"When he came out his heart was barely beating and he had 4.5g of alcohol in his blood."

A police spokesman said: "The matter is under investigation."
