The Special Criminal Court is expected to deliver a verdict in the trial of John Gilligan next week.

The Special Criminal Court is expected to deliver a verdict in the trial of John Gilligan next week.

Mr Gilligan, an alleged drugs gang leader, is accused of the murder of journalist Veronica Guerin.

The submissions from the defence team have ended and Mr Justice Diarmuid O’Donovan said that the court would have to take some time to consider every aspect of the case.

Mr O’Donovan hopes to deliver a verdict by Thursday although he warned it could be later.

Mr Gilligan will be held in custody until the verdict has been given.
