Two pedestrians have been killed in separate road crashes in Galway and Tyrone.

Two pedestrians have been killed in separate road crashes in Galway and Tyrone.

Gardaí are questioning a man in connection with the incident in Galway.

Gardaí say this incident happened just before 2am this morning at Main Street, Carraroe in Galway.

The pedestrian, who is believed to be around 40, died after being hit by a car. His body was removed to University College Hospital.

A man in his early 30s was arrested at the scene.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the garda station at Carraroe or Salthill.

Meanwhile in Tyrone another pedestrian was killed when he was struck by a van in Cookstown in the early hours of this morning.

The PSNI is appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time to come forward.
