A one-year-old boy has died in hospital from injuries sustained in a fall, Scottish police said.

A one-year-old boy has died in hospital from injuries sustained in a fall, Scottish police said.

The baby is believed to have suffered a head injury in the incident, which happened in a house in Craigleith, Edinburgh, on Thursday morning.

Lothian and Borders police confirmed that they were investigating the circumstances of the infant’s death.

A spokesman said: ‘‘On July 26 an ambulance was called to an address in the Craigleith area of Edinburgh regarding a young child who was seriously ill.

‘‘The child was taken to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children and died there early this evening.

‘‘The circumstances of the death are being investigated and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.’’
