Two people have been arrested after the body of a man was found in suspicious circumstances in Waterford city last night.

Two people have been arrested after the body of a man was found in suspicious circumstances in Waterford city last night.

Gardaí say the body of the man, who was in his 60s, was discovered at the Scotch Marsh House apartment block on Scotch Quay in the city.

A man and a woman have been arrested for questioning and are in custody at Waterford city station.

They are being held under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, which means they can be detained for up to 24 hours before being either released or charged.

Gardaí have appealed to anyone who may have noticed anything unusual in the area between 9.30pm and 10.30pm last night to contact them.

The man's body remains at the scene this morning, which has been sealed off for a technical examination.

A post mortem is due to be carried out later to determine the cause of his death.
