Shatter: Closing stations may be best plan for policing

The Justice Minister Alan Shatter has said it may well be the case that best policing can be provided by closing some Garda stations, or cutting their opening hours.

The Justice Minister Alan Shatter has said it may well be the case that best policing can be provided by closing some Garda stations, or cutting their opening hours.

Mr Shatter is waiting on proposals from the Garda Commissioner on how to make savings and it is expected to see dozens of rural stations hit.

The Minister has told the Dáil there may be no choice but to close stations.
