Boru bypasses Cup date

Aidan O’ Brien has ruled out Brian Boru from the Melbourne Cup at Flemington on November 2.

Aidan O’ Brien has ruled out Brian Boru from the Melbourne Cup at Flemington on November 2.

The four-year-old, winner of last year’s St Leger, was as short as 14-1 with Coral for the two-mile event after finishing second to Vinnie Roe in the Irish St Leger last time.

However, O’Brien has decided to target the son of Sadler’s Wells at the Grade One Canadian International at Woodbine on October 24 instead.

Brian Boru ran in the 12-furlong race last year when he finished third behind Phoenix Reach.

O’Brien told the Racing Post: “We decided against running Brian Boru in the Arc or sending him for the Melbourne Cup. The plan is to run him at Woodbine instead.”
