Next Tuesday’s picket of Bank of Ireland head office by 600 members of the Unite trade union has been called off following an agreement reached between the union and the bank today.

Employees will now receive a 3% cash bonus in lieu of the stock issue which had previously been withdrawn.

Measures have also been put in place to avoid a repeat of the public dispute that arose in connection with this issue.

“We are pleased to have secured a fair result for our members,” said Colm Quinlan of UNITE after meeting with the bank employees this morning.

He added: “This was an avoidable dispute and we can now get back to the good work which our members do in securing a positive future for the Bank.”

Bank of Ireland also issued a statement thanking arbitrator Kieran Mulvey: “We would like to acknowledge and thank Mr Kieran Mulvey and the various staff representative groups for their commitment to resolving this matter”.
