Average consumer prices on average were 0.3% higher in September compared with September 2013, according to official figures released today.

Average consumer prices on average were 0.3% higher in September compared with September 2013, according to official figures released today.

The most notable changes in the year, as measured by the Consumer Price Index, were increases in Education (+4.5%), Alcoholic Beverages & Tobacco (+4.1%), Restaurants & Hotels (+2.8%) and Miscellaneous Goods & Services (+2.5%).

There were decreases in the areas of Clothing & Footwear (-2.6%), Food & Non-Alcoholic Beverages (-2.3%), Furnishings, Household Equipment & Routine Household Maintenance (-2.1%) and Transport (-1.7%).

Consumer prices in September, decreased by 0.2% compared to the previous month, however.

This compares to a decrease of 0.1% recorded in September of last year.

The most significant monthly price changes were decreases in Transport (-1.8%), Restaurants & Hotels (-0.4%), Food & Non-Alcoholic Beverages (-0.4%), Recreation & Culture (-0.4%) and Furnishings, Household Equipment & Routine Household Maintenance (-0.4%).

There were increases in Clothing & Footwear (+3.2%), Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas & Other Fuels (+0.3%) and Alcoholic Beverages & Tobacco (+0.3%).
