The State is facing a multi-million euro damages bill over the garda corruption scandal in Co Donegal with up to 40 people planning to sue the State.

The State is facing a multi-million euro damages bill over the garda corruption scandal in Co Donegal with up to 40 people planning to sue the State.

At least five gardaí are believed to be seeking compensation arising out of the matter, while Donegal nightclub owner Frank Shortt is expected to receive a seven-figure sum.

Mr Shortt spent three years in prison before a conviction against him was quashed after an appeal court ruling.
