Garda crackdown results in speeding reduction

Gardaí say the number of people caught speeding was cut in half during a crackdown last weekend.

'Operation Slow Down' ran over 24 hours from 7am last Friday, and those involved say a change in driver behaviour was obvious.

Some 154 motorists were caught speeding during that time period, when gardaí said they would typically have recorded around 300 detections.

More than 75,000 vehicles were monitored by the GoSafe camera vans during the operation.
