Four mountaineers die in Swiss Alps

Four mountaineers died today as they descended the 4,491-metre (14,734-foot) Taeschhorn peak in the Swiss Alps, police said.

Four mountaineers died today as they descended the 4,491-metre (14,734-foot) Taeschhorn peak in the Swiss Alps, police said.

Valais cantonal (state) police did not identify the victims. The climbers, who were roped together, appeared to have died after one slipped and dragged the other three down the mountainside, police said.

The incident took place some 400 metres (1,300 feet) from the summit of the Taeschhorn.
