The volcanic ash cloud could move back over Irish airspace next week, it was announced today.

Forecasters say that in the medium term, the plume which caused chaos for the past two days should stay in the Atlantic.

However, a change in wind direction could bring back towards Ireland from Tuesday onwards, if the volcano continues to erupt.

The Government's emergency taskforce blames the disruption experienced this week on an "untypical" weather pattern coinciding with a very active phase in the Icelandic volcano.
