Charlton boss Alan Curbishley was relieved that his side had secured a point against a fluent Hammers outfit after the 1-1 draw at The Valley.
"All credit to West Ham - their passing and movement was fantastic - and we've gained a point," he said.
"If you'd said to me, after the way they played against us at Upton Park, that we'd get a point I'd have taken that.
"Since we lost 5-0 at West Ham we've stopped letting the goals in but it's affected us the other way (not scoring enough goals). I can't have it all ways."
Charlton defender Andy Todd, who produced a goal-line block to deny Joe Cole, agreed his team had to work hard for the point.
The defender told Sky Sports: "We played a very good team - and we just about hung on.
"West Ham made it very hard for us. They kept the ball very well.
"We were under the cosh a little bit but it was a great strike by di Canio."
