ISME: Salaries increase by average of 7.5%

Salaries have increased by an average of 7.5% in the Small and Medium side business sector over last year.

Salaries have increased by an average of 7.5% in the Small and Medium size business sector over last year.

This is according to a new survey on wages and conditions of employment from ISME released today. It was conducted among 400 companies employing over 12,000 people.

ISME Chief Executive, Mark Fielding, explains what brought about the wage increases, but stressed that inflation was having the effect of freezing salaries in other firms.

"The increases are due mainly to labour shortages in certain categories, to high inflation and to the minimum wage increases and the cost of housing. There is also increased evidence of wage freezes amongst small and medium businesses being brought in over the last number of months."
