Fine Gael have called for cannabis to be made available on prescription in Ireland.

Fine Gael have called for cannabis to be made available on prescription in Ireland.

The drug is already been made available in Britain for pain relief purposes.

Deputy Gay Mitchell believes the move should also receive sanction here.

Fine Gael’s Health spokesman also says he will be raising the matter with Health Minister, Michael Martin.

"We should not get anyway excited about it. The use of illegal drugs is very different from the use of prescribed medicine", said Mitchell.
