Ahern: Spending commitment will be honoured

The Taoiseach has told the Dáil all Government commitments on spending will be honoured in 2002.

The Taoiseach has told the Dáil all Government commitments on spending will be honoured in 2002.

Bertie Ahern added that adjustments will be made to meet Ireland's commitment to the EU growth and stability pact.

Mr Ahern says more money is being spent on public services than ever.

"Across health, across education, across infrastructure there is more money being spent than in the book investments.

"Social welfare spending was up so it is incorrect to say that there has been cutbacks."
