The Irish small businesses association has called on the Government to introduce a policy of privatisation in an attempt to reduce the increasing public spending bills.

The ISME says that the issue of public sector pay is spiralling out of control and the benchmarking process is likely to further increase the wages.

The group claims that this will force businesses to compete at unsustainable levels and must be addressed immediately.

The Chief Executive for the ISME, Mark Fielding, says that by privatising elements of the public sector and forcing them to become more efficient, competitive private operators, public spending could be kept under control.
