Relief experts from Irish aid agency Concern have been carrying out assessments of the situation on the ground at the site of last week's earthquake in Iran.

The team arrived yesterday in the city of Bam, where as many as 50,000 people are thought to have been killed.

Concern Chief Executive, Tom Arnold, said initial reports show the response by the Iranian government and aid agencies has been fast and impressive.

Mr Arnold said lots of supplies had been assembled, however, the immediate need is for providing heat, water, and sanitation.
