An American Airlines passenger jet made an unscheduled landing at Shannon Airport this morning following an air rage incident on board the plane.

Two Canadian passengers in their early 40s were arrested shortly after the aircraft landed and are expected to be charged with assault and criminal damage at Ennis District Court later today.

A flight from Belfast to the Canary Islands was also diverted to Shannon last Friday after a 48-year-old Antrim man became agitated and engaged in threatening and abusive behaviour.

The man was subsequently fined and given a three-month suspended jail sentence.
